More on that time capsule unearthed from Courthouse Square
On February 1, one of two time capsules buried in Old Courthouse Square on March 16, 1968 was unearthed and delivered to the Anthropology Lab at Sonoma State University. There, it will be opened in a controlled environment where the contents will be documented and conserved. After the preservation is completed, the artifacts will be readied for a public unveiling on March 17, 2018 in Courthouse Square from 10:00 to 11:00 am. The community is invited and encouraged to attend on that date.
The community is also invited to view the time capsule contents at the History Museum of Sonoma County on March 24 when admission will be free from 1:00 until 5:00pm. Join us for a beer, wine and light appetizer reception at 1:00, hear an Anthropologist speak about the capsule contents at 2:00 and watch the documentary movie "Santa Rosa: Chosen Spot" at 3:00. The time capsule contents will continue to reside in the Museum through the summer.
The second of the two time capsules will continue to reside in the vault until 2068, Santa Rosa’s Bicentennial.
Santa Rosa’s Sesquicentennial will be greatly celebrated this coming September 8. Many public endeavors are being planned leading up to the highly anticipated late summer Downtown event: Santa Rosa’s 150th Birthday.
