Join Comcast for North Bay Strong Comcast Cares Day - April 21st
Late last year, the North Bay was hit with the worst fires in CA history. As you can imagine, the needs of the community are significant.
For 17 years, Comcast Cares Day has brought together their families, friends and other volunteers across the country to help communities in need.
Comcast Cares Day is an opportunity for us to be part of the rebuilding and recovery of the North Bay community that was so significantly impacted.
Comcast Cares about the wellness of the North Bay community. In our continued commitment to the North Bay, Comcast will have three Comcast Cares Day project sites in Santa Rosa to assist and aid the more than 800 families and their children that lost their homes and the greater community that was impacted by the fires (details below): Lewis Campus(formerly Lewis Elementary School) (main Comcast Cares Day site), Santa Rosa High School and planting trees in the Fountain Grove II area.
Together, we can rebuild and revitalize the North Bay. We invite our employees, their families, friends and neighbors to join us on this special day.
Lewis Campus to become Santa Rosa’s Integrated Wellness Center (Main Santa Rosa CCD Site)
We will be refurbishing and revitalizing part of the old Lewis Elementary School campus that currently is vacant, but with the help of Comcast employees, family, friends and community will be converted into a wellness center to aid the more than 800 families impacted by the fires.
Projects at this site include the following:
- Painting the exterior of all buildings
- Landscaping--weeding all planter areas
- Painting colorful stencils on the outside of the portables
- Adding colorful games on the blacktop
Please note: this is not the entire project list, but a sample of projects to take place at this site to make it a welcoming environment for the impacted families and their children
Santa Rosa High School
For the first time in many years, Santa Rosa High will be holding graduation ceremonies at their stadium. With more than 125 students impacted by the fires, we want to help in making this graduation a special one for the entire community. To help them get the stadium ready, and to help clean and freshen up the area surrounding the stadium, we will be weeding all open areas and putting down fresh wood chips and cleaning the bleachers.
Please note: this is not the entire project list, but a sample of projects to take place at this site.
Santa Rosa Tree Planting with Arbor Day Foundation
To help with environmental recovery efforts in the North Bay, we are pleased to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant close to 400 trees in the hard hit area of Fountaingrove Parkway where more than 90% of the landscape was damaged by the fires.
All the trees planted will be indigenous to the area, and will help re-establish the natural habitat lost during the fires, help with erosion control, and create a scenic treasure that will benefit not only the residents of the Fountaingrove community, but provide pleasant scenery for the thousands of commuters who utilize the Fountaingrove Parkway during their daily commute.
