What’s Next for Downtown?
A year after the opening of a reunified Courthouse Square, the investment in our downtown is paying off. A recent article in The Press Democrat highlighted the renewed sense of downtown as a community gathering place, with big events bringing people into the city core and spurring investment including new restaurants and a key hotel project.
Recent discussions about what’s next have focused on the development of housing, the formation of a community benefit district, and the relocation of county government offices to downtown. The desirability of living in a vibrant city center has become a trend not just for millennials but also retirement-age boomers, and all of these moves are geared toward an urban renaissance for the heart of our city.
