Summer on the Square Brings Music, Movies and Family Fun Downtown All Summer Long

The Santa Rosa Metro Chamber is excited to announce a full slate of events and programming on and around Downtown Santa Rosa’s Courthouse Square this summer. An expansion of the Open & Out campaigns of 2020 and 2021, Summer on the Square brings music, movies and family fun Downtown all summer long.

Music on the Square will bring live music and dancing to Downtown Courthouse Square on eight Thursdays throughout the summer. The Lost Church, a nonprofit arts organization with a Downtown performance space, helped coordinate the scheduling of local performers who bring a diversity of styles. Concerts begin 5:30pm, and the lineup includes:

  • June 9: Kids on a Crime Spree
  • June 16: La Agencia
  • June 23: John Courage
  • June 30: Tru Lyric
  • July 21: SambaDá
  • July 28: Black Sheep Brass Band
  • August 11: Stella & the Starlights
  • August 18: Gill Brothers Band

Beer and wine from local producers will be for sale on-site, and concert-goers are encouraged to stay for dinner at a Downtown restaurant.

Movies on the Square are back this year and better than ever. Four Thursday night screenings on a massive LED screen will give a clearer viewing experience than previous years and will light up Courthouse Square in Downtown Santa Rosa. Movie screenings begin at 6:00pm, and the lineup includes:

  • June 2: Sonoma County Pride Movie Night – Love, Simon
  • July 7: Encanto
  • July 14: Luca
  • August 4: The Goonies (6pm) & Ghostbusters (8pm)
  • September 1: Back to the Future

Prepackaged movie snacks and beer and wine from local producers will be for sale on-site. Movie-goers are encouraged to order take-out from a Downtown restaurant to enjoy during the movies.

A new addition to the summer programming is Family Fridays: three dates this summer with activities and opportunities to engage and connect Sonoma County families. The goal is to create a place for Sonoma County families from diverse backgrounds to come together for free programming and activities, connect with community organizations, engage with each other and have fun. Family Fridays are from 4:00-7:00pm on the following dates with headline features:

  • June 24: Performance by Sonoma County Pomo Dancers
  • July 15: Performance by Ballet Folklorico Quetzalén
  • July 29: Sonoma County Pride Family Affair

In addition to the music, movies and family fun, the Chamber is supporting and helping coordinate dozens of independent events on and around the Square like artist and maker markets, festivals and cultural celebrations.

Activities like these not only help support local businesses like downtown shops and restaurants as well as small and micro business vendors at these events, festivals and markets, but also promotes a connected, inclusive sense of community, creates positive experiences for tourists and visitors, and builds a sense of place in the heart of Sonoma County.
