Showcase Platinum Sponsor Highlights Volunteerism in Sonoma County
This past year, the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County has been busy welcoming new Executive Director Cami Weaver to the helm. Cami’s shared vision, along with the board of directors’, will chart the course for the upcoming years for the Volunteer Center. Never in our local history has the spirit of community activism been so high. From local demonstrations for justice, to filling bags of food each week for people in need, to thousands of people pitching in as volunteer tutors in our local schools, Sonoma County gives back through volunteerism and activism. And volunteers are ageless—young, old and everyone in between can find a way to give back.
On May 8th the Volunteer Center will highlight their key programs and activities at Showcase Sonoma County. Through the signature activities like the Human Race, Sonoma County Secret Santa, The Business Environmental Challenge and 211 information and referral, the Volunteer Center supports the health and wellness of our community in big ways all year long. In the mix that evening will also be a feature of our community service Court Referral program where folks who find themselves with service as part of their court fines gain invaluable experience and bring sustainable support to the community nonprofit partners. The evening will also feature information about the Non Profit Resource center, which provides education and training to local managers and leaders through workshops and conferences.
At the event you will get a chance to meet volunteers who are responsible for hundreds of rides each year supporting our most vulnerable seniors and disabled citizens by providing door to door transportation through the ADA contract with the County of Sonoma. And we hope you will join the volunteer spirit, encourage your business to clean up the environment, sit alongside a student struggling to read or sign up to be an Elf in our Secret Santa program.
For more than forty years, the Volunteer Center has been the heart of our community; matching prospective volunteers with local nonprofits to help them help others. We inspire thousands of people to share their skills and talents with worthwhile causes and organizations that help our community thrive.
The Volunteer Center’s sponsorship of Showcase Sonoma County is underwritten by Weathertight USA, Santa Rosa Marathon, Mountain Mikes/Stout Brothers, Carle Mackie Power & Ross LLP, G&C Auto Body, and Premier Digital Display.
