A recent national survey reveals a concerning gap in disaster readiness among America’s small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). While many SMB leaders believe they’re prepared, only a small fraction have taken concrete steps. This gap not only affects individual businesses but also the economic resilience of our communities.
Key findings from the survey:
- 94% of SMB leaders believe their business would recover from a disaster.
- Only 26% actually have a disaster plan in place.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Readiness for Resiliency (R4R) program offers tools to help close that gap. Businesses complete a simple preparedness checklist, an eligibility quiz, and pre-apply for a $5,000 grant. If a state emergency order or state disaster declaration is made in our region, the R4R team will reach out with further instructions on receiving quick-turn relief funding.
