More Than Meets the Sky
Why expanded air service matters for Sonoma County’s businesses, visitors and economic future.
Delta Air Lines’ arrival at Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS) marks an exciting new chapter in regional air service, expanding travel options for residents, businesses and visitors.
Delta celebrated its inaugural flight on October 6 with a press conference and ribbon cutting, where Santa Rosa Metro Chamber CEO Ananda Sweet joined airport and community leaders to recognize the significance of the new service and the partnerships that continue to strengthen Sonoma County’s economic future.
For years, the Metro Chamber has worked alongside regional partners to support airline attraction and expanded air service at STS. The launch reflects a longstanding priority for our area: improving connectivity to support business growth, investment and tourism. With Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines already serving the airport, Delta’s new nonstop service to Salt Lake City adds another major carrier and more provides access to destinations throughout the United States and beyond.
Reliable air service is an important economic asset, supporting business travel, strengthening Sonoma County’s competitiveness in business retention and attraction, and making the region more accessible to visitors. Connections through major hubs also help link local businesses and residents to domestic and international opportunities.
The Chamber congratulates Airport Manager Jon Stout and the entire STS team on this milestone. Attracting new air service requires sustained effort, collaboration and a compelling case for the region. Equally noteworthy is the team’s ability to advance that work while maintaining smooth, reliable operations for airlines and passengers. That balance is essential to the airport’s continued success.
Delta’s arrival reflects the value of regional partnerships and the ongoing work to strengthen Sonoma County’s economy, welcome visitors and connect our community to opportunities across the country and around the world.
