Mike Hauser Algebra Academy Receives Champions for Children Award
Community Child Care Council of Sonoma County (4Cs) has awarded the Mike Hauser Algebra Academy program its Champions for Children Award in the Business category. The Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce partnered with Agilent Technologies, JDSU, Medtronic and PG&E, as well as the Sonoma County Office of Education to showcase math, science and technology to English language learners entering the eighth and ninth grade.
Held at Sonoma County’s four largest technology companies, the students learn algebra standards and experience the application of algebra in high-tech, real-world situations. They also have the opportunity to speak with various employees while on-site, "interviewing" them about their job, and learning about the various roles necessary to sustain a functioning company. As on of the Academy students noted, "I see math with a different perspective. Now I get it."
The education of young people is an integral part of our future community, economy and workforce, and the Chamber is proud to be recognized as a community leader with this award.
