Leadership Santa Rosa Explores Housing & Community Development
Leadership Santa Rosa Class 42 recently spent a full day examining the complex factors that shape housing and community development in our region.
Hosted at the Justice Joseph Rattigan Building, the immersive session brought together local planners, developers, nonprofit leaders, and community advocates to share perspectives on the policies, economics, and practical challenges behind building vibrant communities.
Through presentations, panel discussions, and a hands-on design exercise, participants explored topics ranging from housing policy and development economics to transportation, planning, and the financial realities communities face when addressing housing needs. The day also included a guided walking tour of downtown Santa Rosa, offering a firsthand look at how development decisions influence the city’s evolving landscape.
By the end of the program day, class members gained a deeper understanding of the systems that influence housing outcomes and the important role community leaders play in shaping thoughtful, sustainable growth in Santa Rosa.
