Groundbreaking at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport
The groundbreaking ceremony at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport on Wednesday, August 28th, marked the culmination of years of Chamber advocacy work on promoting runway safety upgrades and improvements.
The project, which was approved by at least six state and federal agencies and generated a four foot tall stack of environmental documents, will result in an immediate injection of over $50 million into our economy.
The resulting upgrades will enable the airport to attract commercial airline flights to major travel hubs such as Denver, Salt Lake City and Phoenix, which will benefit the many local businesses that send employees east via the Oakland and San Francisco airports and will make our area more attractive to new business.
This expansion will also be a boon to Sonoma County tourism growth, which currently stands at 7.5 million visitors a year and adds almost $1.5 billion to our local economy.
