Gala Honoree Spotlight: Nelson — Large Business of the Year
Founded in 1970, Nelson ranks among the largest independent staffing companies in the Unites States. By taking an active leadership role in our community, they seek to connect the needs of local residents with the hiring needs of local companies by participating in and running job fairs, open houses, and providing skill assessments and trainings to help candidates obtain jobs.
In 2012, Nelson put over 10,000 employees to work and assisted many more with resume writing, interviewing skills and software tutorials. "Our goal as a company is to be a part of the community and make a difference in the lives we are able to touch," says Courtney Dickson, VP of Marketing and Strategic Alliances.
Giving back to the community is also an integral part of their company culture. Nelson employees receive one day off per quarter to volunteer and support a community program of their choice. This participation ranges from active, hands-on volunteering to serving on the boards of various organizations.
"We believe that the values we share as a company and with our employees have borne fruit, as evidenced by longevity of tenure – many of our employees have been with us more than 20 years – and by the awards we receive as a result of being a good employer," says Ms. Dickson.
Regularly recognized as one of the "Top 10 Best Staffing Firms to Work For," in 2012 Nelson has also been honored as one of the "Best Places to Work in the Bay Area" by San Francisco Business Times and San Jose/Silicon Valley Business Journal, made Inavero's "Best of Staffing" lists for both client and candidate satisfaction, and for the 11th year in a row, was named "Best Job Placement Service" by NorthBay Biz magazine.
"Networking in the community and giving back area a huge part of the lifestyle of the Nelson employees," said Ms.Dickson. "In the coming years, we will continue to be a contributing member to our community and the individuals who make it such a wonderful place to live."
Nelson and other 2013 award winners will be honored at the Chamber's Annual Gala on January 31st.
