Gala Honoree Spotlight: Kaiser Permanente, Large Business of the Year
The Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center has built and maintained a leadership role in health care and our community by meeting the health care needs of a growing community and providing an integrated model of care that promotes total health through prevention, empowerment, and integration.
Kaiser Permanente (KP) Santa Rosa Medical Center opened in 1980 with 25,000 members. In ten years, when the hospital opened, membership had grown to 70,000. New medical office buildings were opened in 2003 and again in 2007. In 2010, KP Santa Rosa added a new hospital tower to meet the needs of an ever-larger membership. A new medical office building is planned for 2017 in Southwest Santa Rosa.
Today, KP Santa Rosa provides health insurance coverage and quality health care to more than 166,000 members at the Santa Rosa Medical Center, adding nearly 7,000 members in the past year alone. Of those members, 27,000 are Medicare members and nearly 20,000 members have subsidized coverage through special programs such as MediCal, and Kaiser Permanente is a participating health care insurance provider in Covered California under the federal Affordable Care Act.
In addition to its focus on expert medicine and improving total health, Kaiser Permanente’s emphasis on prevention and wellness has long distinguished it, and is now a standard of care, widely imitated by others.
It’s part of the Kaiser Permanente mission to “improve the health of the communities we serve.” Our leadership team, physicians, and staff actively participate in our community. KP Santa Rosa has more than 90 physicians and staff who volunteer their time and expertise on more than 70 local nonprofit boards and commissions.
KP Santa Rosa is proud of its generous people and the financial and in-kind support we provide local health clinics and nonprofits to improve the health of everyone in our community. Additionally, KP provides corporate sponsorships of major community and nonprofit fundraisers.
For more than 35 years, Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center has been a growing economic engine in Santa Rosa and throughout the North Bay. It is the largest private employer in Sonoma County with more than 2,600 employees. KP SRO offers a variety of career and growth opportunities for family medicine and specialty physicians, professional clinical staff, and support staff.
Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa is proud of its support and premier sponsorship of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce. Additionally KP Santa Rosa trains community leaders through the Leadership Santa Rosa program, sponsoring more than a dozen Kaiser Permanente LSR graduates. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente provides leadership, support, and expertise to the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, including past president of the board, and ongoing board and committee membership.
