Downtown Residents & Businesses – Special Notification IRONMAN Santa Rosa Event on Saturday May 11, 2019

On Saturday, May 11, 2019, the City of Santa Rosa and Santa Rosa Metro Chamber are co-hosting the third annual IRONMAN Santa Rosa triathlon with the finish line in downtown Santa Rosa near Courthouse Square. The IRONMAN Santa Rosa will bring approximately 2,400 athletes and their support teams to Sonoma County where they will swim in Lake Sonoma, bike to downtown Santa Rosa, run the Santa Rosa Creek trail system, then finish in downtown Santa Rosa while covering 140.6 miles.

The purpose of this letter is to provide specific information to residents and businesses of downtown Santa Rosa so that Saturday plans may be adjusted to accommodate the race event and to minimize impacts to residents, business owners, and patrons. Access into and out of downtown will be maintained but alternative routes are recommended. Please see the list of road closures below. “No Parking” signs will be installed 72 hours in advance on all streets and parking areas that will be impacted.

Race Week: Sunday May 5 through Sunday May 12:

IRONMAN Village will be under construction in and near Courthouse Square beginning on Sunday, May 5.

Street Closures in the downtown area will be as follows:

  • Courthouse Square West Road
    • Closed from Sunday 5/5 at 9:30 AM to Monday 5/13 at 5:00 PM
  • Courthouse Square East Road
    • Closed from Tuesday 5/7 at 8:00 AM to Monday 5/13 at 8:00 AM
  • Third Street:
    • Closed from B St. to D St. westbound direction: Thursday 5/9 at 9:30 AM
    • Closed from B St. to D St. in both directions from Thursday 5/9 5:30 PM to Sunday
      5/12 8:00 AM (Access to/from Garage 5 will remain available until Friday 5:30 PM
  • Fourth Street:
    • Closed from B St. to D St. in both directions: Friday 5/10 at 9:00 AM to Sunday 5/12 at 8:00 AM

Race Day: Saturday May 11 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM:

  • General Rule: Access downtown Santa Rosa from the north or east for easiest access
  • West 9th Street eastbound CLOSED from Donahue Street to A Street
  • 7th Street CLOSED from A Street to B Street
  • B Street CLOSED from 5th Street to 3rd Street

Race Day: Saturday May 11 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM:

  • General Rule: Access downtown Santa Rosa from the north or east for easiest access
  • D Street CLOSED from Sonoma Ave to 4th Street in both directions
  • 1st Street CLOSED from Santa Rosa Ave to D Street in both directions
  • Santa Rosa Ave CLOSED from Sonoma Ave to 3rd Street in both directions

Parking:

We recommend that you ask employees and customers with appointments to utilize the downtown parking garages. The 7th Street garage (521 7th Street) and Lot 10 (730 5th Street), should be most accessible during the event.

Trash Service:

Trash service will occur during usual time periods race week and on race day.

Amplified Sound Notification:

There will be amplified sound including announcements and music in Courthouse Square including during the following hours:

  • Thursday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM (Movie Night on big screen, 8:30 PM-10:30 PM
  • Friday, May 10 from 10 AM to 5PM
  • Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 AM to MAY 12 12:10AM
  • In addition, music will be played at aid stations along the run course on Saturday, 5/11 along the Santa Rosa Creek Trail from 12 PM to 10 PM
