Courthouse Square Construction Has Begun
Wondering what’s happening in front of the Chamber offices with the reunification of Courthouse Square? Crews are off to a running start with temporary fencing on the perimeter that went up Monday and crews doing preparatory to remove existing concrete structures in the Square.
The initial demolition is expected to take 2-3 weeks to complete, after which excavation, grading and the installation of underground utilities will follow. The first construction priority is reinstalling Hinton and Exchange Avenues on the east and west side of the Square featuring wide sidewalks suitable for outdoor dining.
The construction site fencing temporarily restricts pedestrian access along the north and south sides of the Square, but 6 foot wide walkways are open on the east and west sides of the Square. View a map of the pedestrian access during the initial phase of construction.
Businesses and restaurants around the Square will remain open during construction, and the project will not affect the schedule or location of the Wednesday Night Market.
No street closures are expected during the summer months. Hours of work will be from 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and there is the possibility of some night and weekend work.
