Costeaux employees complete two month English workshop through WHEEL Program
Just last week, 20 employees of Costeaux French Bakery completed a thorough English course through the Chamber's WHEEL program. Working with Kelly Bass Seibel, director of workforce development at the Chamber, and George Dancisak, the instructor who was coordinated through the Chamber, Costeaux management developed a list of critical concepts to be included in the curriculum.
"Investing in our employees is one of the most important things we do," said Will Seppi, president of Costeaux French Bakery. "Annually our company commits significant resources for the betterment of our people. This year has been no different," said Seppi, who continued, "we began the year by bringing an outside consultant to lead us in an intensive service workshop over the course of a week. The entire team from front of house to drivers and support staff participated in the workshop aimed at heightening our awareness of client and guest service."
Prior to the English classes, Costeaux, in partnership with the Santa Rosa Chamber WHEEL program, offered a family literacy program. The program conducted in Spanish afforded Costeaux employees the opportunity to learn about the importance of being involved in the development of their children's education. Many of the Costeaux employees that took the English course participated in the family literacy program as well.
"Participation in the WHEEL program is not just a win for the employees," commented Bass Seibel, "the employer also sees an improvement in employee morale, communication and loyalty. Costeaux Bakery has demonstrated their commitment to their employees not just by holding the classes, but also by providing vast management support during the duration of the program. I have been very impressed with Costeaux’s commitment to being a family-friendly business."
