Chamber Supports Housing Construction
The Chamber spoke out twice this week in support of building housing in the Santa Rosa area. First, Chamber President Jonathan Coe applauded the County Supervisors for their sale of the County’s property on Chanate. “This is a unique opportunity to create hundreds of housing units,” Coe stated. “It is a large parcel whose development will result in in-fill within the City by an experienced developer whose vision includes both market rate and affordable units.”
Coe also appeared before the City Council to support an initiative being spearheaded by Vice Mayor Tibbetts to incrementally dedicate real estate property tax proceeds to housing. The proposal will add an additional 5% per year of these proceeds for affordable housing in the city. “This approach is measured to avoid burdening the City all at once with the change,” Coe noted. “Over time, however, it ensures that these funds will be available to support the development of much needed housing by the City.”
Supporting the building of additional housing units at all price levels remains the top priority for the Chamber as the only way for us to resolve our housing crisis.
