Algebra Academy Approved as Model Upstream Program
The Santa Rosa Chamber is pleased to announce that the Mike Hauser Algebra Academy has been approved by Sonoma County Upstream Investments for Tier 3 inclusion in the Portfolio of Model Upstream Programs.
The Algebra Academy is a program devoted to strengthening the algebra skills of eighth grade English language learner students by engaging them in interactive, hands-on learning guided by local teachers, engineers, and technical experts. The program is also designed to inspire students in the pursuit of higher mathematics, science, technology, and engineering by bringing them into the workplaces of local high-tech companies.
Upstream, a Sonoma County strategic initiative, emphasizes prevention-focused intervention and policies for children, families, individuals, and the community to increase equality and promote opportunities that reduce future monetary and societal costs. The Upstream Investments Policy is sponsored by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and currently led by the Policy Committee. This policy is widely supported throughout the community and seeks to eliminate poverty in Sonoma County and ensure equal opportunity for quality education and good health in nurturing home and community environments. Currently, 82 programs meet the criteria for placement on the Upstream Investments Portfolio of Model Upstream Programs.
