Learning Laguna Docent Training Orientation
Become a docent with the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation and help 3rd graders explore and connect to their local watershed.
Learning Laguna Docents are trained volunteers who teach 2nd–4th grade classrooms throughout the Laguna de Santa Rosa watershed and lead student field trips to Laguna preserves. Docents inspire children to appreciate and learn about the wetlands, plants, and wildlife of our watershed.
Attend the orientation to see if being a Learning Laguna Docent is a good fit. You’ll learn about the Laguna de Santa Rosa ecosystem, the work of the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation, and your role in leading both classroom and field activities. All training course details will also be covered.
Training runs on eight consecutive Tuesdays, February 24–April 14. Trainees will also have opportunities to shadow the program, putting their learning into practice.
Upon completing training, docents commit to a minimum of 20 volunteer hours each spring and fall. Most volunteering takes place on weekday mornings from September–October and March–May. Docents are part of the Laguna Education Team, enjoying continuing education, special outings, and social events with fellow volunteers and Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation staff.
