The Press Democrat Announces a Return to Live Events with the Women in Conversation Experience Featuring Three Olympic Gold Medalists
Wednesday, September 22, at Green Music Center
The Press Democrat, North Bay’s most-read local news provider, announces its next Women in Conversation event featuring three Bay Area local Olympic gold medalists, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brandi Chastain, and Kerri Walsh Jennings. This in-person event is a continuation of the bi-annual events that celebrate the inspiring stories of women, which were put on hold in 2020. The Women in Conversation Experience will be held on Wednesday, September 22, at Green Music Center and will closely follow current health and safety guidelines.
The event begins at 3:30 on the Green Music Center lawn, celebrating and inspiring women with an outdoor experience that is free and open to the public. The experience includes short talks and demonstrations, local female-centric exhibitors, activities, and food trucks.
The conversation, held in the auditorium, begins at 7:00 PM with three inspirational women, each with impressive athletic careers.
Kristi Yamaguchi: A former American figure skater, Yamaguchi is an Olympic gold medalist, two-time world Champion and the 1992 U.S. Champion. In 1992, she became the first Asian American woman to win a gold medal in a Winter Olympic competition.
Kerri Walsh Jennings: An American professional beach volleyball player, Walsh-Jennings is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, one-time Olympic bronze medalist, and three-time World Champion. In 2016 she became the most decorated Beach Volleyball Olympian of all-time and currently holds the title of Winningest Female Beach Volleyball Player with 133 career wins.
Brandi Chastain: An American retired soccer player, Chastain is a two-time Women’s World Cup champion, two-time Olympic gold-medalist, and a two-time All-American. In 1999, she was named one of People Magazine's 25 Most Intriguing People and one of Street & Smith's 100 Most Powerful People in Sports after peeling off her jersey in celebration of her winning kick in the Women’s World Cup.
To protect the health and safety of attendees, Green Music Center encourages masks outdoors and requires masks and either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test in the auditorium. Full health and safety measures are outlined at gmc.sonoma.edu/covid-19.
The Women in Conversation brand and series continues to create a stronger voice surrounding topics of interest for women of all ages, building a stronger community in our region of women who support and inspire each other and spark important conversations.
