Symphony Family Concert Streams May 29 Giving All-age Audience Closer Look
Santa Rosa Symphony (SRS) presents a virtual concert experience, with excerpts curated by Music Director Francesco Lecce-Chong from the Symphony's 2020-2021 SRS @ Home concerts. Prior to each piece, Lecce-Chong, joined each time by a different SRS musician, will describe the featured section of the orchestra and its instruments and provide an engaging introduction. Before the final selection, SRS Artistic Partner, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich will share insights about composing.
Lecce-Chong said, "Supporting the Santa Rosa Symphony's family concert series has been one of my priorities since joining the orchestra. So, I am especially excited that as part of our SRS @ Home series, we will be curating a special virtual performance to bring together audiences of all ages for a musical adventure through the orchestra! This is a truly unique opportunity to see our musicians and their instruments up close through our beautifully filmed performances and learn about the diverse group of composers we have been featuring all season long."
This free, virtual, family-friendly concert will include the second movement of Brahms' Serenade No. 2 in A major for Orchestra and excerpts from: Michael Daugherty's Asclepius, Fanfare for Brass and Percussion; Arturo Márquez' Danzón No. 4 for Chamber Orchestra; William Grant Still's Serenade for String Orchestra; and Zwilich's Peanuts® Gallery for Piano and Orchestra. The concert will run for less than one hour. There will be no intermission.
