Sonoma County Radio Pro, Brent Farris Nominated for Sherwood Award
Long time local radio personality Brent Farris from Sonoma County’s 100.1 KZST has been nominated for a Sherwood Award which could land him in the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame (BARHOF).
The Sherwood Awards are named for the self-proclaimed World’s Greatest Disc Jockey, Don Sherwood (BARHOF 2006) and are the “people’s choice” for most popular active personalities in the music, news/talk and sports categories.
Public voting in these categories takes place through July 11, 2020 at the website: https://bayarearadio.org/2020-sherwood-awards. Farris competes with 23 other personalities from around the Bay Area for the coveted award.
Redwood Empire Stereocasters; home of 100.1 KZST, 102.7 The Wolf, 93.7 the Bull, 99.1 Jazzy and 106.3 The Beat; is owned by Gordon Zlot, who was inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2018 , along with 102.7 the Wolf personality Sue Hall, inducted last year.
Farris discovered radio when as a young photographer, he entered a radio studio to shoot the Doobie Brothers. He vowed that radio was what he would do. And he did. Beginning in 1976 as an intern at KTIM in San Rafael, he quickly worked his way into stations across Northern California. He eventually found his way to the KZST Morning Show in 1982. A consummate music lover, known for his outrageous stunts and wild creativity, Farris brought 100.1 KZST to number one in Sonoma County where it has remained since his arrival.
The 2020 Sherwood Award winners will be announced online at BayAreaRadio.org, as well as via social media, on July 25.
