Santa Rosa Art Students Awarded Over $1,000 In Scholarships
Santa Rosa High School students Tessa Anthony, Siena Katzung, and Eva Trujillo were awarded college and art school scholarships from local company, Floortex Design. First-place winner Tessa Anthony, 17, received $1,000 for her acrylic painting filled with vibrant colors. A second-place prize of $250 was awarded to 15-year-old Siena Katzung. The third winner, Eva Trujillo, 18, was awarded a gift card to Rileystreet Art Supply.
Floortex Design’s annual Artists Scholarship is designed to encourage young people to pursue their dreams as artists. Their work enriches the local art scene, and the awards events give students a platform to showcase their art.
"I knew I wanted to paint something, and I wanted it to be big! I wanted it to look out of place in the traditional home," says Tessa, a senior at Santa Rosa High. She would like to use her scholarship to attend an artist's retreat.
Siena Katzung's goal is to study in a fine arts program. "This curriculum would depend on where I get accepted into, but one that intrigues me is UCLA and their highly valued fine arts program." Siena is a sophomore at SR High.
The winner of the gift card, sponsored by Rileystreet Art Supply, is senior Eva Trujillo. She drew her inspiration from childhood memories, "I wanted this piece to reflect the warmth and utter joy of a kid sitting on the wooden floor, hidden away from the rest of the world."
All artwork will be displayed in the Floortex Design showroom in Santa Rosa until January 2024.
Students enrolled at Santa Rosa High School are encouraged to apply next year for the 2024 Scholarship.
