Responding to the tremendous need, Santa Rosa Symphony makes “Creature Features,” Sunday, Oct 29, FREE for ALL CHILDREN under 13 and FAMILIES who have lost their homes
Santa Rosa Symphony makes its first of three Family Concerts - Creature Features, Sunday, Oct 29, FREE for ALL CHILDREN (under 13) and FREE for families who have lost their homes. Children in our County need uplifting, smoke-free activities and families may wish to escape the constant reminders of the fires’ devastation. Families wishing to attend will still need a ticket and are asked to call the box office and state their status when ordering.
President and CEO Alan Silow says, “In such challenging times, we all find the best in ourselves rising to the occasion. In that light, the Santa Rosa Symphony is extending a special offer to the children of Sonoma County and to those families who have lost their homes, to enjoy a complimentary respite and enjoy our first Symphony family concert of the season.”
The first Finley Foundation Family Series concert, “Creature Features,” featuring treasured classics depicting real and fantastical animals will delight an all-age audience on October 29, 2017 at 3 PM at Weill Hall, Green Music. Richard Loheyde will lead the orchestra in music, primarily from 20th century musicals and movies, which will engage young and old alike with its animal theme, dramatically supported by Roustabout Theater.
From Ludwig van Beethoven’s The Creatures of Prometheus Overture and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Wolf Theme” from Peter and the Wolf to more current favorites such as John Williams’ Theme from Jurassic Park and “Main Title from the Star Wars Saga, the audience will immediately recognize many of the pieces, imagining the creatures as they enjoy the rich, full sound of these favorites live, with a full orchestra. Roustabout Theater, resident theater company of the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, make this program especially fun for young children, as they incorporate dance and song in playful skits that accompany the orchestra performance. Santa Rosa Symphony Assistant Conductor, Dr. Richard Loheyde, also serves as conductor of the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra. Recent positions include director of orchestral activities at the University of Evansville, assistant conductor of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, director of orchestral activities at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and he has served on the faculty at Sonoma State University. Free photo booth and Instrument Petting Zoo
Free pre-concert fun, including an Instrument Petting Zoo and a photo booth, begins at 2 PM. Children are invited to learn about, handle and play instruments in the Instrument Petting Zoo, which is supported by the SRS Music Education Department, SRS Youth Ensemble members and parent volunteers. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite animal or creature and get their photo taken in the free photo booth. Costumes are optional, but the photo booth is always a hit with young and old alike.

Subscription Packages and Single Tickets
Prior to the October 29 performance, three-concert Family Series subscriptions may be purchased at $45/adult, $30/child (age 12 and under). Family packages start at $126 (must include at least two adult and two child subscriptions). Tickets for individual concerts are $17/adult, $12/child* (under 13).
*“Creature Features” is free for families who have lost their homes and for all children under 13.
All patrons, no matter what age, must have a ticket. Seats are reserved.

Richard Loheyde
Dr. Richard Loheyde presently serves as conductor of the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Santa Rosa Symphony
Recent positions include director of orchestral activities at the University of Evansville, assistant conductor of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, director of orchestral activities at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and he has served on the faculty at Sonoma State University. Previously, Dr. Loheyde served as music director of the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, music director of the University Orchestra at the University of Texas at Austin, conducting fellow of the Music School Festival Orchestra at the Chautauqua Institution, conductor of orchestras at the International Music Camp and assistant conductor of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.
His guest conducting experience includes engagements with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Civic Orchestra and Opera and the Iowa State University Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Loheyde made his conducting debut with the Santa Rosa Symphony in 2006 and now conducts the Santa Rosa Symphony Family Concert Series.
Dr. Loheyde began his music studies as a violinist, with early training at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, and at the Tanglewood Music Center, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has been a violinist and violist with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Rosa Symphony. He has degrees from the University of Michigan, the University of Connecticut and the University of Texas at Austin.
Roustabout Theater
Roustabout Theater is the resident theater company of the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and its Apprentice Program is one of the leading theatrical training and performance programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Roustabout’s award-winning Apprentice Program highlights the talents of the county’s most extraordinary student performers through its professional productions. The theater company also provides unique opportunities for students through their ongoing series of Master Classes with Tony Award winners, award-winning Broadway actors and nationally recognized casting directors. Additionally, their Conservatory Classes provide further training in acting, vocal performance, diction, dialect, movement, dance, improv and stage combat.
Roustabout has collaborated on a number of performances for the Santa Rosa Symphony’s Family Concert Series at the Green Music Center, as well as a 2014 Symphony Pops tribute to Marvin Hamlisch.
