Redwood Credit Union Recognized for Community Efforts
Redwood Credit Union (RCU) received honorable mention for the Community Credit Union of the Year award at the recent Credit Union National Association (CUNA) conference in Dallas, Texas. The Community Credit Union of the Year Award celebrates community credit unions that best demonstrate the fundamental values of the credit union movement, and who have a positive influence in the communities they serve. BayPort Credit Union from Virginia and RCU were the two credit unions recognized in the category of $250 million in assets or greater. RCU received the award based on its commitment to member service; community and nonprofit sponsorship and volunteer efforts; and extensive fire relief support to Lake County in the wake of devastating wildfires in 2015 and 2016.
Robin McKenzie, RCU’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, accepted the award at the CUNA conference on RCU’s behalf. “Helping people succeed is what Redwood Credit Union—and the credit union industry—does every day, and it’s an honor to do so. We’re grateful to be recognized with this award,” McKenzie said. RCU previously received CUNA’s Community Credit Union of the Year award in 2008.
RCU sponsors and volunteers for a wide variety of local community efforts and nonprofits throughout the year, including local volunteer centers, food banks, youth programs, and United Way. Thanks to nearly 13,000 donors, Redwood Credit Union’s Lake County Fire Victim’s Relief Fund has been able to provide over $2.7 million in support for relief efforts following the devastating Lake County fires in 2015 and 2016. 100 percent of the donations aided those affected by the fires. The fund was created by Redwood Credit Union Community Fund, Inc., in partnership with Redwood Credit Union and the Press Democrat, and in conjunction with Senator Mike McGuire.
