Redwood Credit Union Offers Free Document Shredding and Security Event in Santa Rosa
Annual “Shred-a-Thon” provides free shredding service, e-waste collection, and fraud prevention seminar for the community
– Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is hosting its annual “Shred-a-Thon”—a free security event for the community—on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Redwood Credit Union, 3033 Cleveland Ave, Santa Rosa. The popular Shred-a-Thon event includes a free seminar on financial fraud and identity theft prevention from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in RCU’s community room, and free document shredding provided by Shred-It and e-waste collection by Conservation Corps North Bay from 9 a.m. to noon.
“Shredding old financial documents and other confidential paperwork is one of the best measures people can take to protect themselves from identity theft,” said RCU president and CEO, Brett Martinez. “We’re happy to provide this free service for the community to help people securely dispose of their sensitive documents, and learn tips to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft.”
Attendees may bring up to three banker-sized boxes (15”x12”x10”) of confidential documents for on-site shredding, such as old financial statements, canceled checks, credit card offers, and other outdated documents containing personal information. Conservation Corps North Bay will also be on site to collect and recycle e-waste such as old computers, printers, cell phones, and personal electronics.
Food and monetary donations will also be accepted at the event to benefit the Redwood Empire Food Bank.
