Redwood Credit Union announces new home for annual Santa Rosa Shred-a-Thon
Redwood Credit Union’s (RCU) free annual Shred-a-Thon in Santa Rosa is moving to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds this year to accommodate growing community participation. This new location will enable the credit union to serve more people seeking to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft.
The event will take place Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at the fairgrounds, located at 1450 Bennett Valley Road in Santa Rosa.
After record attendance in 2025, RCU relocated the event from its branch and headquarters on Cleveland Avenue to provide additional space for vehicles, document shredding, and e-waste recycling. Participants should enter the Brookwood parking lot via Bennett Valley Road.
Attendees may bring up to three standard-size boxes (15 inches by 12 inches by 10 inches) of confidential documents for secure on-site shredding by Shred-it. Conservation Corps North Bay will also collect and recycle e-waste, including computers, printers, cell phones, and other personal electronics.
Participants are also encouraged to bring nonperishable food items or make a monetary donation to support Redwood Empire Food Bank, helping provide nutritious meals to people facing food insecurity throughout the region.
The annual event delivers benefits far beyond document disposal, helping community members safeguard personal information, keeping recyclable materials out of landfills, and supporting local families in need.
In 2025, community participation in RCU Shred-a-Thons generated a significant environmental impact:
- 110,880 pounds of documents were securely shredded.
- 28,805 pounds of e-waste were responsibly recycled.
- Paper recycling saved an estimated 948 trees and 387,810 gallons of water.
