Positive news stories: Becoming Independent
Becoming Independent has been providing a variety of services to the over 1,000 people with disabilities we serve year-round since the COVID-19 pandemic has hit our community.
The continued operation of our Community Support Services (CSS) has ensured that people who live independently are able to remain in their homes and are not placing additional demand on community resources. Simultaneously, those participants who have been deemed essential workers have been able to continue to work in industries like grocery, with support from their Job Coaches.
Our Day Programs were tasked with the enormous job of completely re-creating their services to meet the demands of a now virtual customer group. Not only did they create a stellar program that is receiving regional recognition, they have opened up a large component of that program to our entire community, regardless of whether or not the individual receives services from BI. Anyone who follow's BI's Facebook page can find weekly community offerings on our page (posted every Tuesday) while the SIP continues.
