PG&E Sponsors Solar on Santa Rosa Affordable Homes
Since 2005, PG&E has worked with Habitat for Humanity on the Better Together Solar Habitat program. This program funds the full cost of solar panels for new Habitat-built homes in our service territory throughout Northern and Central California. This first-of-its-kind partnership brings solar energy to families with limited incomes, furthering our commitment to provide affordable, renewable energy in the communities we serve. In addition to solar panels, PG&E also provides resources to Habitat affiliates to help build greener and more sustainable housing.
Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County invite the community to celebrate the dedication of a Santa Rosa home presented in partnership by Habitat families, Harris Family Foundation, PG&E, volunteers, many supporters, and neighbors. The ceremony will be at 2863 W. Steele, Santa Rosa CA at 1:00pm, Wednesday, July 19th.
This new affordable ownership house will be home for the Dodson Family. Their story is much like many of our Sonoma County residents:
After looking long and hard for places to move, Amy & Paul were discouraged by the high housing prices and found themselves living in an RV on a family’s property with 6 children. They applied to Habitat for Humanity with hopes they may qualify. It turned out they were ideal candidates: committed, focused, employed, with a clear need for a home, but an income gap that could not be bridged without the kind of assistance that Habitat for Humanity provides.
Today, Sonoma is the 10th least affordable county in the nation. With very few of our neighbors able to afford to purchase a median priced home in our region, families are forced to share their homes with multiple people to reduce cost. Many spend 50% or more of their monthly income on rent alone, prohibiting them from saving for other immediate and future needs of their family.
Every day, we are reminded how there is a direct relationship between stable housing and brighter futures for school-aged children like Jasmine’s daughters.
