Our Community: A Wild Weekend Comes to an End

(You may have read the story in the Press Democrat, "An ill boy, a wrestler, a weekend," about Jonathon O'Malley, the 15-year-old suffering from an incurable autoimmune disease, who got to spend a Sonoma County weekend with his hero, former professional wrestler "Tyler Reks" aka Gabe Tuft of Local Marketing 2.0.)

Jonathon has just boarded his flight for a long trip home. My heart is fluttering within my chest thinking of all that you have pulled together to make his wishes materialize this past weekend. Within just 5 days you teamed up to put his proposed weekend itinerary into motion. Each one of you played an instrumental role in cutting expenses, rejuvenating his hard working mother and, creating mind-blowing experiences that Jonathon will never forget.

Jonathon’s elation with the entire weekend is almost indescribable! When I began to create his itinerary I simply noted every wild dream I could imagine him having. I contacted each of you and you made these dreams a reality. Watching the joy on his face was a treasure as he received your generous gifts, and played Xbox in a movie theatre that shut down just for him. His wildest dreams continued to propagate as he took his first limo ride to the beach, made his own dinner in a five star restaurant, and told his remarkable story to his personal cinematographer. He honestly believed that this weekend could never be topped when he experienced a professional photo-shoot with his hero and received a private wrestling lesson in a massive gym alongside a talented parkour duo chiming in with tricks of their own. All weekend long he ate 5 star meals, and heard about his hardworking mother’s day of relaxation including luxurious gift baskets, a 2 hour makeup lesson/application with high end products and a full body relaxation massage. To top his weekend off he was prayed for in a church who’s hearts have faith to ask God for a cure. This was all possible because of you! His heart is warmed because of your generosity and his spirits are lifted by the memories you have given to him.

If you have noticed Jonathon’s list of “Angels”, you will see the businesses and individuals contributed to making this possible! I must say I was brought to tears over and over by your generosity and selflessness. Out of all of those who took part, not one of you asked for anything in return. Not one of you even asked for a tax deduction. Not one of you was “inconvenienced” or unwilling. Your enthusiasm to sacrifice yourselves for this special young man has given me a renewed admiration for our business community. I am so honored to live in Sonoma County among such philanthropists. Please take a moment to glance at the list of Jonathon’s Angels (see below). The news and articles mentioned many of you personally but I wanted to be sure that you were all aware of the few that were not mentioned. The businesses on this list are run by individuals who I highly suggest working with! Not only are they selfless benefactors but are running professional, organized 5 star companies! This entire weekend ran so smoothly and in such a timely fashion that it was shocking. Never, in my years of organizing detail oriented events, have I seen such a powerful team of businesses abide so eloquently to a tight/set schedule!
