Active 20-30's Children's Shopping Spree Delivers!
Children’s Shopping Spree 2020 Delivers!
- Event Organized by Three Sonoma County Active 20-30 Clubs Provided Much Needed Support to Local Families -
The Active 20-30 Club of Santa Rosa #50 teamed up with other local chapters, Healdsburg #205 and Redwood Empire #1029, to produce a successful 2020 Children's Shopping Spree, an annual joint project that provides back-to-school items to local youth in need.
The aim of Children’s Shopping Spree is to better equip children for their first day of school, so they can start the new year with confidence and the tools necessary for success, while offering some relief for parents who may struggle to meet the added financial burden of purchasing back-to-school supplies and clothes for their kids. In addition to providing these items for children across the county, promoting volunteer participation, and encouraging young adults to take on leadership roles in their community, this event specifically allowed for a direct injection of funds into the local economy, having the added benefit of supporting local businesses.
This year, over 300 Sonoma County children received backpacks, clothes, and school supplies at the annual event, which followed a drive-through format following social distancing guidelines, due to the coronavirus pandemic preventing large-scale gatherings. Various booths were set up throughout the parking lot offerings other goods and services, and to engage with families. Thosse included Sonoma County Fire District, Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, and Redwood Empire Food District.
“Having to adapt the logistics of this year’s event due to the unusual circumstances around COVID-19 certainly posed some unique challenges, but with the diligent work of our committee and the tremendous efforts by our many volunteers, we were able to make it happen,” said Herman G. Hernandez, a member of Active 20-30 Club of Santa Rosa #50 and one of the co-chairs of the event. “We are so grateful for and humbled by the outpouring of support from our community, and we are thrilled to have been able to help so many kids start the new school year off right.”
The Active 20-30 clubs involved would like to thank the community for their unwavering support, and to also thank the many sponsors of this year’s event. The 2020 Children’s Shopping Spree would not have been possible without generous donations and support from these individuals, families, and businesses: Basin Street Properties, Carle, Mackie, Power & Ross LLP, City of Santa Rosa, Comcast, First 5 Sonoma County, City of Healdsburg, The Heck Foundation, KZST, MG Insurance Services, Mountain Mike's Pizza, Nelson Staffing, Rotary Club of Windsor, Scott Technology Group, Simon Mall, Sonoma Clean Power, Target – Coddingtown, Town of Windsor, and the Welsh Family.
