Where or when does personal history become social history? How can we use art to heal into the present? Two friends from diverse backgrounds reflect on their experiences of family, culture, and trying to feel at home in Santa Rosa since the 1960’s.

Using dance, drumming, singing and storytelling, they take the audience on a literal journey through the History Museum. They perform stories of their respective black and Jewish families, and their own tales of swimming against the cultural mainstream. Who is welcome in Santa Rosa? How can we welcome ourselves?

Nina Galin is a California artist and educator in dance-theater and somatics. She is curious about the layers of histories in each place she lives, from her own body to the social, cultural and political environments that surround her.

Jim Marchbanks has a background in acting and studied Theater Arts & Media at the UC Davis MFA program and Sonoma State University. He's currently working on a Experimental Theater program in collaboration with the Arlene Francis Center in Santa Rosa.
